breathing new life into a repurposed pumphouse
The Summit Lake Nature Center features a dynamic, highly visual multimedia exhibition custom-engineered for a sensitively repurposed historic pumphouse. Spanning a 1,000-square-foot footprint within the First Floor Community Room, the space was thoughtfully transformed into a high-impact, immersive educational destination.
Serving as the prime contractor and lead exhibit designer, our mandate was to deliver an inspirational, evergreen exhibition program that balances rich interpretive storytelling with long-term adaptability. Our design strategy illuminates Summit Lake’s historical, present, and future ecological evolution while sensitively addressing complex local community and social narratives. The resulting environment serves as a bright, welcoming civic hub designed to cultivate community participation and meaningful engagement. To ensure operational longevity, the exhibition incorporates modular display panels and an intuitively updatable software infrastructure, alongside specialized integration tailored to live animal husbandry needs.
